We discussed branding this week in class and the importance it has on the company as well as its audience. When most people think of branding, they immediately think of the logo and the name. However, there is so much more to this, things like typography, colour scheme, the name, the tone etc. all combined make up the brand of a project. As I am currently still researching, I haven’t thought too much on the brand, but one day while I was researching, the word Arcadia came to me. Not knowing what it means, I looked it up and saw that it means; “a region or scene of simple pleasure and quiet”. Considering that my app is to encourage calmness and create a relaxing scene, I thought this word is quite relatable to the theme I want to get across.
This led me to begin sketching a possible logo. A while back, I saw a very eye catching logo or monogram to advertise VR. It consisted of the letters V and R but they were both combined together and leading into one’s self. The top left corner of the ‘V’ was the longest part of the letter and the bottom right of the ‘R’ was also the longest part in that letter, but combined together. I really liked this design and I thought that I could incorporate this into my idea. So, I then began trying to insert the letter ‘A’ in between the ‘V’ and ‘R’, to show that my idea is both virtual and augmented (AR/VR). But in the end it looked more like a VAR logo than a product to advertise VR. For a first draft I was quite happy with the idea and the overall look of the monogram and I am hopeful that better ideas will come my direction. Unfortunately this design didn’t last too long.
Just below this logo, I was able to create another possible logo for the brand, but this time draw an outline of a VR headset and an ‘A’ in between to present that name and the purpose of the product (VR). I wasn’t expecting it to be a finalised idea, nevertheless I just wanted to get my ideas from my head onto paper and then work from there.
Example of these sketches can be seen below:
