This month I set out to create a project that could showcase my business skills in a holistic manner. I chose drop shipping and challenged myself to open and advertise a shop in 3 weeks. Feel free to click around to see how I did it!

The fourth and last week of my 21-day dropshipping project has successfully been completed. You can see my outline here. Let's take a look at what I got done this week and some problems I ran into.

This week's checklist

Design and run ads using Facebook Ads

  1. Design ads
  2. Launch ads
  3. Cost to benefit analysis spreadsheet on ads

What I accomplished this week

This week I launched three different ads to compare the three different departments of my store to see which is more profitable. I ran them using Facebook Ads manager and documented the process of creating them and analyzing them here.

First I had to sign up for Facebook, create a business page and get access to the ads manager. From there I started a campaign for 36 hours with a lifetime budget of $30. When my ads were done running, I took a few key numbers on the breakdowns of the ad performance and put them on a spreadsheet to make it easier, and gave a quick analysis. It was clear that electronics is the most profitable department and that got me thinking about ideas for the future.

Problems I ran into

Making the ads themselves was not particularly difficult. I used the same type of ad for all three departments to make it a fair game. It was a "carousel" type ad, similar to Facebook or Instagram posts. What did prove a bit challenging was navigating around the Facebook Business Suite and Facebook Ads Manager. Some of that challenge could be attributed to the fact that it was my first time using the tool. But this was a welcome struggle because it gave me valuable insight into how in-depth Facebook Ads can be. There are seemingly endless options and performance indicators that can all be used to optimize a company's ad strategy.
