This week we focused on the use of colour in design and different ways to effectively use colour within our own designs.

Colour Palettes

We first focused on colour theory and different ways to use it to create cohesive and eye catching colour palettes, we looked at four different ways that colour theory could be used, these included:

• Analogous Colours - Colours that are similar and near each other on the colour wheel.
• Complementary Colours - Colours that are opposite each other on the colour wheel.
• Monochromatic Colours - The same base colour but using different tones and values.
• Triadic Colours - A set of three colours that are equally spaced on the colour wheel.

We experimented with creating colour palettes based off these, using either Adobe colour (Color wheel, a color palette generator | Adobe Color) or Canva colour wheel (Color wheel - color theory and calculator | Canva Colors).

These are the four colour palettes that I created, using these websites to generate a colour palette was very useful in ensuring that all the colours that were selected worked well together and were cohesive.
