Interesting themes to explore
- Technology and memory — history as collective fake news / a fake memory and what does it mean to remember? And the movement to tell history from the perspective of the oppressed. It’s the memories that they sell to advertisers to then sell you ads. The memories are the result of surveillance.
- It’s important to think about “how might this feature or product be used in harmful ways?” or “what might be its negative consequences?” This could be framed as pessimistic versus optimistic, but what do both words mean? Tech hasn’t been about positivity and optimism exclusively. It’s also a bit delusional. It has ignored the negative outcomes.
- A chisel, not a sledgehammer. A chisel for the internet, where you can remove small amounts of stuff. Small augmentations to the tool that would allow for more user agency.
- Whatsapp and phone use in India - technology addiction
- Harm reduction, threat modeling, end-to-end encryption, data
- Responsible technology, the designer as the facilitator.
- When we talk about privacy we mean intimacy, agency, and consent.
- Digital rights as defined by APC an Coconet
- Internet freedom — the internet or technology as an extension of U.S. political interests
- Access to digital spaces
