Today we kicked started our first day of IXD501. We were told the layout of the module, the aims, considerations for our project and what was expected of us in order to successfully complete the module. At the minute, it is early days on what type of project I will create. The whole purpose of this lesson is to help generate ideas which I will be thinking of and researching from here on out. Not long into the lesson, we were asked to take an A3 page, draw 30 circles and within a 5 minute timeframe, draw as many objects as you could from these circles. I was able to use 17 of these circles.
The reason for this exercise was to get us thinking for starters, but also to see how we can think outside the box and use one or more circles to make an object. An example would be of the bicycle or the pair of glass I drew.
To end the lecture, we were given a task that would help ease us into the module. We were to get into teams and “choose one from the list of Zeitgeist topics to explore a product, service or system that may address the issue or part of it”. From the list, we all agreed on climate change. We spend the rest of the day on this and by the end of the lesson we had decided we were going to create an app that allows users to report overflowing bins and general waste in areas around the city of Belfast, to the local city council. Doing this would result in a cleaner area and an easier way to report waste/fly tipping.
This week we will continue working on this as a group so we can be ready for the pitch in next weeks lesson.
