Here are some tips and prompts to help you identify the types of images you need to best communicate your message. This can be helpful when using stock images, sorting through your own photos, or working with a professional photographer.

First, let’s remember the purpose of images and video on your website is to communicate and establish trust. Therefore, it’s best to avoid using images to simply fill space or look nice.

This checklist can help guide you in choosing photography for your website. This could help you get the most from your time with a photographer, or choosing stock images.

Working with photographers… a bit of etiquette

The last thing you want to do is start micro-managing a creative professional. If they have experience then they’ll be considering things you’d never think of. It’s important to be clear on what you want without telling them every little detail.

This document is less of a checklist and more of a series of prompts to get you thinking about the kind of images you want. Use this to get some ideas, write them down, and share the entire document and where it came from with your photographer.
