What is a true biblical fast?

• It is the practice of abstaining from food for spiritual purposes.
• There is a difference between biblical fasting (no food, water only OR no food or water) and abstaining from pleasures such as social media, tv shows, movies, certain foods, sex (for married couples - 1 Corinthians 7:5), etc. We can say we are going on a “social media fast” which is dope but when the bible refers to fasting, this is going without food.
• The Daniel Fast (for example) specifically Daniel 1:8-14, is where Daniel and his friends chose to ABSTAIN from rich and luxurious foods and only ate vegetables and drank water. The idea is to focus on simple, plant-based foods and eliminate certain indulgences from the diet.

What is the purpose of this fast?

There is a heavy call of repentance for all believers and a burden on my heart for revival across the nations. It has never been more pressing to disconnect, fast and seek God in this day and age of mass consumption, distraction, hustle culture, etc. Additionally, this will teach you how to be alone with God and learn how to war spiritually in the secret place.

My goal is for every person to pray for:

• Revival in their towns, cities, and nations (praying for the hearts of the lost, unbelievers and those in other religions to come to Christ)
• Praying against demonic warfare (rebuking demonic agendas’ in your area / praying against spiritual strongholds in your life and the lives of others)
• Praying for yourself, needs and desires (yes, this is not selfish), repenting of your sins before God, asking Him to reveal anything you need to surrender and give up before Him
• Your families, friends and brothers and sisters in the faith
• Seek God for clarity on visions, dreams, and future projects on your heart / ask Him for new revelations
• Pray about what you should pray for and what He scripture God wants you to spend time in

What does the bible say about fasting?

Corporate fasting examples

• Acts 13:2–3 demonstrates corporate fasting in the Bible aka collectively fasting with others
• Esther fasted and prayed for three days with her maidens and the Jewish people before approaching the king to plead for their lives (Esther 4:16)
• Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah fasted from all food & drink except vegetables and water for 10 days. (Daniel 1: 18-14)

Individual Fasts

• Jesus fasted for 40 days in the wilderness (this appears to be no food but water) (Matthew 4:1-11)
• Moses also fasted for 40 days to receive the Ten Commandments (Exodus 34:28)

IS IT SAFE TO DO THIS FAST?

• ABSOLUTELY!! You can technically go without food for up to 2 months. Jesus fasted food for 40 days, along with Moses AND Elijah! I myself have down 2-4 days without food (this including water) multiple times. Its actually beneficial to your body to fast this long
• “Fasting, particularly for 72 hours, can trigger autophagy, a cellular process where the body clears out damaged cells and debris. This can promote cellular health and potentially slow down the aging process” → GOD IS COOL
• You can only go 3 days without food & water (aka: a dry fast) but water is needed much more than food.

FOR THOSE WITH HEALTH CONCERNS

• Don’t fast if you are pregnant / breastfeeding
• Contact your doctor to ask about fasting if you have any concerns
• If it is not safe for you to partake in this fast, consider fasting food from sunrise to sunset each day (eating when the sun is down), having only smoothies / other drinks with supplements, abstaining from social media, certain foods, etc. Do something that is crucifying your flesh unto the Lord!
• MOST IMPORTANTLY, PRAY AND ASK GOD 😊

What NOT TO DO when fasting

• Don’t boast about your fasting (aka: act all high & mighty because you are fasting / MAT. 6:16-18). Since this is a corporate fast, make sure to spread the word as this is GLOBAL!
• If someone asks you about eating, don’t lie! It is not “boasting” for you to be honest. Tell them you are fasting for God.
• Ask your requests of God with open hands but do not expect him to do what you are asking just because you are fasting. (reminder: the ultimate purpose of fasting is to get closer to the Lord and seek His heart - not to obtain the thing you are desiring. God is the goal)
• Don’t do your typical routine - fasting should be paired with more prayer, intimate time with God, worship, bible studies, etc.
• don’t eat heavy after fasting - when breaking the daily fast after sunrise on September 1st, ease into eating with light food & then a meal.
• Dont condemn yourself if you break the fast before 72 hours - if you eat before the fast is up, do not condemn yourself but have grace. Simply pick back up where you started.

Do’s & Dont’s of fasting

Why should we fast?

• spiritual, physical, emotional & mental dependency is increased as we die to our flesh and rely on God for our daily bread and living water sustenance
• the fruit of self-control, discipline, and humility increases as we willingly withhold a basic necessity from our body
• your spiritual awareness grows stronger as you are fed by God’s presence and the word. This is a time where our flesh arises hard and becomes made known to us and gets burned by sanctification (a process where we become holier and set apart for Christ)
• you get to value basic necessities to a deeper extent as you suffer for Christ and learn to not take it for granted
• seek God for wisdom, direction, clarity, vision, deliverance, repentance, breakthrough, etc.
• allows you to remove & break any physical addictions or dependency on food, coffee, sugar, etc.
• some forms of deliverance or driving out of demons can only be done by prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21)
• REVIVAL!!! WE ARE PRAYING for God to wake up our nations and warring for unbelievers, those in different religions, our brothers and sisters facing persecution, for ourselves to burn on fire, etc.

Any age limit?

• no age limit but if you are under 18, consult your parents before joining!

THINGS I WILL BE DOING (not requirements but you are welcome to join me)

• walk each day and spend time with God (praying, listening to a sermon/devotional, etc.). i will not be working out at the gym.
• no phone until I have spent time with God in prayer & reading the word in the morning. I will also not be indulging on social media / tv / or movies. I will only be on my phone to lead the fast & communicate with my friends/family period. Most of the day I am going to be with Jesus.
• limit time doing activities I normally do (hanging with friends, grocery shopping/errands, social media, work, etc.) in order to spend this time with God.
• wake up from 6-7 AM each day for MAXIMUM time to spend with God
• meditate, journal & pray daily
• drinking lots of water lol
• taking off work (recommend) but if you can’t, no worries!
• Sleep well 🙏🏻
