Step 1: Filter the Visible Dirt (Sediment Pre-Filter)

How:

Pour water through a bandana, T-shirt, sock, or coffee filter into a clean container.

In the woods:

Use moss, leaves, or sand if cloth unavailable.

In the city:

Use napkins, coffee filters, or fabric strips.

Step 2: Build a DIY Filter (Bio-Filter)

Layer a bottle or container like this:

  1. Top layer: cloth
  2. Layer 2: charcoal (activated or crushed BBQ coals)
  3. Layer 3: fine sand
  4. Layer 4: small gravel
  5. Bottom layer: cloth or cotton

Let water drip slowly through into a clean container.

This removes odors, chemicals, bacteria colonies, and particles.

Step 3: Boil the Water (Kill Pathogens)
