Voting is one way you can advocate for the sociopolitical issues in which you care about. As we know voter suppression exists and it is a strategy used to influence the outcome of an election by discouraging or preventing specific groups of people from voting. This educational session will both provide information on voter registration and the history behind voter suppression. The educational session will also provide action steps on combating voter suppression and how to use your vote to create change.

Andrew Lewis (Moderator)

Andrew Lewis currently serves as the President of the UCLA Mixed Alumni Association, where he currently served as the Student Engagement Director. The UCLA Mixed Alumni Association is one of the few of its kind in the Nation that serves the Multi-Cultural/Racial Community.

Ashley McCullough (Panelist)

Ashley is a native of Charlotte, NC. She obtained her bachelor’s of science degree in Accounting from NC A&T State University and a master of science in accounting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Ashley started her career as an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and currently serves as the Accounting Manager at a non-profit organization, Thorn.

Christina Sargsyan (Panelist)

Christina is a third year Pre-Psychobiology major. She is currently the coalitions coordinator for CALPIRG's New Voters Project and the co-chair for BruinsVote at UCLA. Christina joined CALPIRG's New Voters Project because she believes that there are various demographics in the United States that are disenfranchised, whether that is due to their rights stripped away from them, because they never had them at all, or because their vote is being actively suppressed.

Corey Matthews (Panelist)

Corey is a nonprofit executive with more than a decade of experience designing, evaluating and leading community-based programs in a variety of social policy arenas. He currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer of Community Coalition - a permanent community-based institution in South Los Angeles - where he participates on the executive team to advance internal leadership development practices, manage operations and support strategic planning processes.

Ryan Smith (Panelist)

Prior to joining the Partnership, Ryan was the Executive Director of the Education Trust-West and Vice President of Strategic Advocacy for the Education Trust, an education civil rights organization dedicated to closing opportunity gaps. At The Education Trust-West, he worked on producing actionable, accessible research and advocacy tools that reached state policymakers and on-the-ground community advocates and education leaders alike.
