Good morning / afternoon name (and spouse)
Are you a member of your local VSO? Are they taking care of you?
VSO’s are great, they take care of a lot of things for you so I’m glad I got the chance to meet with you.
(HIT RECORD) Now Name, this meeting is being recorded for quality assurance so that the VSOs know that you are being served at the highest level.
Before we dive in, (Name), what was the main reason you filled out the request — was it for your Veteran’s will, burial benefits, or both? Okay, and what branch did you serve in?
Well, thank you for your service.
IF ACTIVE DUTY: Now (name), what is great about doing this while you are still on Active Duty, is because at the end of your service you are going through an exiting process and that is where you are going to fight for the disability that you want and deserve. The challenge is when you do that, it makes it more difficult to get the Veteran benefits that you are entitled to. So that is why it is really important to get this taken care of NOW, so that you can go and get the VA disability rating you deserve.
I am one of the benefit case managers. We work in cooperation with all of the major VSO’s like the VFW, AMVets and the American Legion.
Now the VSO doesn’t know your personal situation, but they’ve found that all veterans have a very serious gap in their personal burial benefits and estate planning that even the VA doesn't take care of. The VA does a good job serving veterans while you're living, like your medical, disability, home loan & gi bill. Now when it comes to protecting your family, that’s where the VSO’s come in — your burial benefits, Estate Planning, Veterans permanent benefits. Now they also realized that there were many misconceptions between what most veterans thought they were getting, vs what they ARE actually getting even if they're 100% disabled and/or retired.
So they broke this up into three parts for you. So the first part I like to go over with you, is all of your prequalified benefits, like the will, health service card, and amber alert kits — all that’s already been taken care of for you. I just go over it with you and show you how to fill it all out. And then I’ll definitely cover the No Vet Left Behind program with you as well*.* That's our biggest mission, protect and serve 100% of our veterans. We have about 200,000 that leave the service every single year, and it’s become impossible for us because not every veteran is a VSO member or attending their VSO meetings. And lastly is the funeral and final expense benefits and seeing if you qualify for the veterans permanent life insurance.
I will say it's a lot different than the VGLI. I don't know if you remember the VGLI, but that was the one you had to transfer. That was the term life option. Your veterans permanent life is the one that stays with you for the rest of your life. Now, the main difference is at the time when we left the service, VGLI wasn't based off health. Now your veterans permanent is based on your age and health.
Just because you’re a veteran, it doesn’t mean you automatically qualify. It’s still based off age, health and habits. And so that’s where we come in, help out with the qualifications, work together to find a plan that covers your family and works with your ****Lifestyle during your open enrollment period, which is here today.
I’m going to share my screen so you can see everything as we go through it all. When we’re done, I’ll do an emailed summary for you so you’ll have everything we’re going over. I will also fill out a report card at the end letting the VSO know that I met with you, so if there is anything that they could do to better serve you as a veteran, please let me know and I will put that in the report as well. Sound good?
Also (NAME), I’ve got a limited amount time here, servicing all the veterans on my schedule, and I’m sure you’re busy as well, so is it okay if I just jump right in?
IF MARRIED: Spouse, everything I’m about to go over with name, is important for you as well, so let me know if you have any questions.
