Here are some methods I have used in my experience:
Surveys are a cost-effective way to gather information about your users. They allow you to collect data from a large group of people quickly. Surveys can be delivered via email, social media, or embedded in your website and feature related. Surveys are useful for collecting quantitative data such as demographics, user preferences, and behavior patterns. However, surveys have limitations. They can be impersonal and may not provide in-depth insights into user behavior or flows.
Interviews are a great way to gather qualitative data about your users. They allow you to ask open-ended questions and probe deeper into user behavior, attitudes, and preferences. Interviews can be conducted in person, via phone, or video chat. Interviews can help you understand the context of user behavior and identify pain points. However, interviews can be time-consuming, and it may be difficult to find representative users.
💡 Tip: to craft your own interviews and avoid biased questions, make sure you use questions that apply to the context of your research and use template questions created by user researchers. Questions database by Maze.
