Results and Analysis (12/24/2020, 23 respondents)

Demographics

• 74% were 25-34 years old (as expected)
• 10% were 55-64, 10% were 18-24

This result was expected, based on where I posted the survey. This won't change the design or architecture of the app too much, but I will keep in mind that it is somewhat likely that most of the people using this app will be between 25-34 years old.

Type of Music

• Most (about 48%) of the respondents typically write non-digital music, meaning they would need to record their songs acoustically
• 26% write electronic music, and 10% write both, so a sizable portion (about 36%) of the respondents would not need to record their songs acoustically all the time

This result supports including a recorder function in the app, as most people would need some way to record an acoustic instrument. It could also be used to support including MIDI instruments, as there was a significant portion of the respondents who make electronic music as well. At this point, more information will be needed to support including MIDI.

Songwriting Habits

• Majority either use a phone app or other software to record early versions of their songs

I asked this question to get an idea of how necessary an app would be, rather than a piece of desktop software, or even analog hardware. Based on these results, it seems that it's safe to move forward with creating an app prototype.
