Blood Supply
Axillary Artery
- 1st part of axillary a. => 1st rib to proximal part of pec minor; one branch -> sup thoracic artery
- 2nd part of axillary a. => posterior to pec minor ; two branches -> supply thoraco-acromial and lateral thoracic
- 3rd part of axillary a => distal to pec minor muscle; three branches
The axillary artery is divided into three parts by the anteriorly positioned pectoralis minor muscle. The first part is proximal to the pectoralis minor, the second part is posterior to the muscle, and the third part is distal to the muscle.
Conveniently, there is
- one branch that arises from the first part of the artery,
- two branches that arise from the second part, and
- three branches that arise from the third part.
- One of the branches that arises from the third part of the axillary artery is the posterior circumflex humeral artery.
