She had no signs of pregnancy. She was still seeing her period, so she didn’t suspect a thing.
Should we call it a cryptic pregnancy? Or were the signs there, but she simply didn’t recognize them?
All she noticed was a sharp lower abdominal pain that kept coming and going, and that was what made the doctor request an abdominopelvic ultrasound.
During the scan, the radiologist started asking a few routine questions. He asked when she last saw her period, and she said it came this month.
He asked if she was on any family planning method, and she explained that she used to take pills but stopped.
Then he asked how many days her period normally lasts, and she said it used to be five days but had reduced to three for about three months now..
She didn’t think much of the change, but that reduction in flow was the sign she ignored.
After scanning, the radiologist gently turned to her and said,
“Madam, you are fourteen weeks pregnant.”
She froze. “Ah… how? In this economy? I already have four children.”
She wasn’t prepared for the news at all.
We reassured her and encouraged her to consider a reliable family planning method after delivery.
Family planning is not just about preventing pregnancy.
It helps couples protect their health, space their children, plan their finances, and reduce emotional stress.
