Students will be graded in accordance to their participation in the classes. Be advised that mere attendance doesn’t correspond to class participation. Students should come prepared to the classes, read the appropriate chapters and articles beforehand, ask questions, join class discussions, and make relevant comments throughout the semester. Students should not ask for grades at the end of the term, just for attending the lectures.
Students will do research about an important political person from the United States of America. They will give a ten minute presentation about their research in the second half of term. Presentations will be graded based on their content, style and delivery. Students will make presentations by themselves and be graded individually. The topics of the presentations will be decided beginning with the third week and they will be delivered after the mid-term exam. If a group cannot give the presentation on their designated week, there will be a penalty of 25% for each week (Except for a physician's report). For instance, if a person presents two weeks after their deadline, they will be graded out of 50, not the usual 100. Therefore, you are advised to be ready on the day you are supposed to give presentations.
The exams will be essay–type and open ended. The students will be responsible for both course materials and class notes. There will be no fill in the blanks, true or false, or multiple choice type of questions. The detailed information about the exams will be given during the lectures the week before the exam.
