How to reflect and improve on your mock exam scores:
- After completing a UCAT mock exam, always go and take a break and move away from your screen for some time
- The exam is very intense and its important to have a break and reset
- Create a spreadsheet or use a notebook where you record all of your scores
- This sheet should include your overall scores and the score for each subsection
- This helps you to track your progress over time
- Go over the incorrect or flagged questions from your mock exam by reading the explanations
- Once reading the explanation, you need to decide if this is an easily fixable mistake or it is a lack of knowledge/incorrectly approached problem
- Learning from the mistake
- If this is an easily fixable mistake, and the explanation alone makes sense, screenshot the question and explanation onto a document or flashcard set so you can review this regularly. For example, every morning you can start your UCAT revision by reviewing this document, which has your old mistakes on it
- If this is not an easily fixable mistake, then watch a tutorial on how to answer the question using Medify/Medentry/YouTube and do practice questions (timed or untimed) on the specific area you are struggling with
An example UCAT timetable:
Week One:
- Watch videos and tutorials on how to answer questions and the techniques you need to be using to work quickly and accurately
- Initially, they may feel slow and difficult to use, but the more you practice using techniques, the quicker you will get
Weeks Two-Three:
- Focus on doing untimed practice questions and learning to apply the techniques you have learnt
- Aim to get the majority of questions correct before moving on to timed questions
Week Three-Five:
- Focus on doing timed practice questions and then reviewing your mistakes
- For incorrect questions, go over the explanations and revisit tutorials to improve your timing and technique
Week Six-Seven:
- Completing a full mock exam every day for 2 weeks before the exam day
- After completing each mock, review the mistakes in depth
- From this, make an Anki or flashcard deck or a document which has all of your incorrect questions on it and review this document regularly
- Do timed questions on your specific weaker areas to improve on these
