Upon landing at the airport:

Connect to the airport wifi upon arriving.

If you are visiting HCM for a few days first, feel free to ask any airport agents to help you call a taxi back to the hotel. Use wifi and/or your new local SIM with data to call a taxi using Grab or Green SM (see link below).

If you are going straight to Vungtau, please reach out to Linh well in advance before your travel. Linh will arrange for a car to pick you up. Please let us know as soon as you land so we can coordinate with the driver.

Getting around in the city:

Mopeds, bikes, and walking

You can legally operate a moped in Vietnam without a license if the engine capacity is 50cc or less. Otherwise, you will need a motorcycle license and an international driving permit.

Traffic in Vietnam is controlled chaos. If you need to walk cross the road and it seems hard, feel free to ask a local for help. Linh holds onto strangers every time she crosses the road. The trick is to walk forward slowly and predictably rather than stopping suddenly or daring across. Believe it or not, if you keep walking forward confidently, the drivers will dodge you.

<aside> 💡

Do NOT hesitate and walk backward because you are afraid, it is actually more dangerous, as the drivers do not generally expect you to do that

The areas near the beach are very walkable. We recommend walking barefoot on the sand on the Back Beach (Bãi Sau) for extra therapeutic benefits.

You can rent a bike (and helmet!) and ride along the coast as well.
