Microsoft Teams:

We’ll be using Teams for text-based discussion, for group work, and for assignment submission. We will have a tech and creative help discussion board and various chat threads on teams. You can use Teams to message other students individually as well.  I will email you with the info to sign into the class Teams if you’re not automatically added.

Flip(grid):

We’ll be using Flip as a periodic asynchronous video conversation option throughout the semester.

Adobe Premiere:

We’ll be using Adobe Premiere for editing assignments throughout the class. You will need to have access to a computer that supports Premiere. Middlebury has a free license for educational use. Premiere is the software we use as our main editing tool in the FMMC department.

Recommended Hard Drives

You will need a dedicated hard drive to edit from for the course. It’s the one purchase that you need to make for the course as there are no textbooks to purchase. Click here for guidance on which hard drive to purchase.

Youtube

We'll primarily be using YouTube as our video sharing site in this class. Even if you have a YouTube account, I strongly encourage you to create a new and dedicated YouTube account for this class, and to create a pseudonym for it rather than use your real name. I'll ask for you to submit your YouTube account names so I know who you are!

I encourage you as a default to post your videos as Unlisted. If you want to enter the YouTube conversation by posting your videos publicly, that’s okay, but please do so as a conscious decision that you’ve thought through and talked over first.

If your video gets blocked on YouTube for copyright issues we can a) use this as an opportunity to think through how YouTube policies can run into conflict with Fair Use and b) share the videos with the class via google drive.

Share Your Work

Consider sharing your work on the departmental playlists!

OpenTogetherTube:

We’ll use OpenTogetherTube for our collective synchronous virtual screenings (which will happen during our screening time on Monday evenings, at 8PM).  Screenings will rarely be longer than an hour.
