Hello! 👋

Welcome to OHT’s tone of voice guide.

This is a fairly brief overview of how we write. It’s for everyone in OHT, and it applies to all the writing we do, inside and out. It’s not a set of rules. Think of it as a helpful nudge in the right direction. Something to support you in writing with heart, courage, and clarity.

📖 Every word matters

The words we put on screen and paper are one of the most important ways we show people what OHT stands for. Every word adds up to someone’s perception of who we are.

If the way we communicate confuses, frustrates, or scares people, we can lose hard‑earned trust in seconds. This matters even more when we’re dealing with sensitive subjects, difficult topics, or technical ideas. So yes, every word really does matter.

📜 This isn’t a rulebook

Good writing is empathetic. Thinking carefully about who you’re writing for, how they might be feeling, and what they need from us should never feel like a tick‑box exercise. It’s something worth putting thought into every time.

If you’ve got a genuinely good reason to veer off the path we’ve set out here, go for it.

We also don’t want everyone to write in exactly the same way. OHT writing should feel like it comes from people who share the same values, but not like it came from one single voice. That would be odd.

You’re here because you’re smart, caring, and thoughtful humans. We trust you to do the right thing for our community and for each other.

💌 This guide is alive

Our tone of voice is something we shape together. If something feels confusing, outdated, or like it could be better, please say so. We’re always learning, and we’re always listening.

🗣 Voice and tone

Our voice stays consistent. It’s our personality. Friendly, curious, and kind.
