As lovely as our office is, we're not going to learn much about our users by sitting at our desk. One of the key reasons why doctors hate their computers is most software in healthcare is built by people who have no idea of what happens in a practice or hospital on a day to day basis. We can't fall in to that trap.

Things we do now

Practice & Trust visits

Everyone (doesn't matter what role you have) visits a GP practice at least once per cycle. Some people visit twice per week! Sometimes this is just for user testing, and sometimes it's to shadow GP appointments and reception phone calls.

To visit a practice, check out the booking sheet or ask Catherine or Bill when we have upcoming visits. If you see someone has a practice visit in their diary, you can just ask them if you can join.

Cycle support slots

OK, so it's not quite the front line, but it's speaking to the front line. Everyone does a morning on support once per cycle, so that we're all speaking to users regularly and understanding their pain points. Find out more information here

Build expertise in our team

Healthcare experience definitely isn't a prerequisite to join our team, but it really helps to have our Clinical Team, who all spend most of their time with us but at least one day a week working as practising clinicians.

Optional Reading

If you’re interested, we recommend reading the The Appointment to get a great insight into the mind of a busy GP and This Is Going To Hurt give a good glimpse of hospital doctor life. They're in the Accurx library and The Appointment is given to you on your first day.

Things we want to do

Volunteer in healthcare organisations

We want to establish links with local healthcare organisations (hospitals, care homes, clinics) that we can volunteer in, to spend more time with staff and patients

Join our Patient Participation Groups (PPGs)

Every GP practice has a PPG which any patient at that practice can join. This gives you a lot of insight to what the practice is working on.
