Date

The default date format for all our systems is YYYY-MM-DD (year-month-day).

You will find it in places like:

Why

If an employee in the US writes 04/05/2026, they mean April 5th. If an employee in Europe or the UK reads it, they see May 4th. So, slash-based formats are banned.

The advantage of using the ISO 8601 is that it is universal and easy to scan. Spelling the month out is another acceptable alternative, e.g., May 12, 2026.

Timezones

Default

The default timezone for all our systems is UTC.

Why. The advantages of using UTC as your one true time zone include:

  1. No more need to Google other time zones. You immediately know the difference between where you stand in relation to UTC, and that's it.
  2. Not affected by Daylight Saving Time. This advantage speaks for itself.
  3. No more need to ask people where they are. You can focus on finding availability quickly and easily.
  4. You can add it to your calendar by default or use it as a secondary time. Most calendar solutions support this.

You can configure your Google Workspace to see both your local timezone and UTC Timezone

We use Central European Time (CET) for all our meeting times.
