Time & Calendar
The Smartphone Widget features a powerful and flexible time and calendar system, designed for maximum compatibility with your Foundry VTT world. It can function using its own robust, built-in clock, or it can perfectly synchronize with popular time management modules.
This allows for unique world settings—such as the year '2077', a calendar with 13 months, or a week with 10 days—while ensuring all timestamps and calendar displays are consistent across your game.
How to Access Time Calendar Settings:
- Method 1 (Main Settings):
- Go to the main Foundry VTT Configure Settings menu (⚙️).
- Navigate to the Module Settings tab.
- Find "Smartphone Widget" in the list and click the button labeled "Time & Calendar Settings."
- Method 2 (In-App Shortcut):
- As the GM, open your Smartphone Widget (📱).
- Navigate to the Settings app (⚙️).
- In the "GM Only" section, tap on "Time & Calendar."
The Configuration Panel Explained:
- Time Source Selection (GM Only - Most Important Setting!):
- This is the first and most crucial setting. It determines which clock your Smartphone Widget will follow.
- Internal System (Default): The widget uses its own highly customizable world clock. All detailed settings below (Current Time, Base Units, etc.) apply only when this is selected.
- External Modules: If you have other time management modules installed (e.g., Simple Calendar, Seasons & Stars, Simple Timekeeping), you can select one here. The smartphone will then perfectly sync with that module, adopting its calendar structure, time, and responding to its time changes. When an external module is selected, all time manipulation must be done through that module or the GM controls in the smartphone.
- Current Time & Date (Internal System Only):
- Allows you to set the precise current moment in your world when using the internal clock.
- Base Units & Calendar Structure (Internal System Only):
- Define the fundamental building blocks of your world's time.
- Base Units: Set how many seconds are in a minute, minutes in an hour, and hours in a day.
- Weekdays & Months: Add (➕) or delete (🗑️) the names of the days in your week and the months in your year. You can specify the number of days for each month and define leap year behavior.
- Leap Year Rules (Internal System Only):
- Defines when leap years occur for the internal clock. Defaults to the standard Gregorian calendar rule.
Time-of-Day Lighting FX (✨)
This powerful feature automatically adjusts a scene's lighting based on the in-game time, creating immersive transitions from dawn to day, dusk, and night. This feature works with any selected time source.
Setup is a two-step process:
- Global Enable: First, you must check the "Enable Automatic Lighting Effects" box within the main Time & Calendar settings panel.
- Scene-Specific Enable (Crucial Step): This feature must also be activated on a per-scene basis.
- Go to the configuration for the scene you want to automate (Right-click scene in navigation > Configure).
- Go to the "Lighting" tab.
- Find and check the box for "Enable Time-of-Day Lighting."
