Time & Calendar
The Smartphone Widget uses its own independent time and calendar system, completely separate from Foundry VTT's core clock. This is a deliberate design choice that offers significant flexibility for world-building. It allows for unique world settings, such as the year '2077', a calendar with 13 months, or a week with 10 days, without conflicting with other modules or the core system.
How to Access Time & Calendar Settings:
- Method 1 (Main Settings):
- Go to the main Foundry VTT Configure Settings menu (⚙️).
- Navigate to the Module Settings tab.
- Find "Smartphone Widget" in the list and click the button labeled "Time & Calendar Settings."
- Method 2 (In-App Shortcut):
- As the GM, open your Smartphone Widget (📱).
- Navigate to the Settings app (⚙️).
- In the "GM Only" section, tap on "Time & Calendar."
The Configuration Panel Explained:
- General Time Settings:
- Use Game Time: This is the most fundamental setting.
- Checked (✅ Default): The widget will use its own custom world clock. All features like the calendar, message timestamps, and automatic lighting will be based on this in-game time.
- Unchecked (🔲): The widget will use the real-world time and date from your computer. The custom calendar and time manipulation tools will be disabled.
- Current Time & Date:
- This section allows you to set the precise current moment in your world. You can change the Year, Month, Day, Hour, Minute, and Second. Changes here are applied to the world clock when you save.
- Base Units & Calendar Structure:
- Here, you can define the fundamental building blocks of time and the structure of your calendar.
- Base Units: Set how many seconds are in a minute, minutes in an hour, and hours in a day.
- Weekdays & Months: You can add (➕) or delete (🗑️) the names of the days in your week and the months in your year. For each month, you can specify its number of days, whether it's a special "leap month" (like February), and how many extra days it gets in a leap year (the "Leap Offset").
- Leap Year Rules:
- This section defines when leap years occur. It defaults to the standard Gregorian calendar rule (every 4 years, except for years divisible by 100 unless they are also divisible by 400). For most GMs, leaving this as the default is recommended.
Time-of-Day Lighting FX (✨)
This powerful feature automatically adjusts a scene's lighting based on the in-game time, creating immersive transitions from dawn to day, dusk, and night.
Setup is a two-step process:
- Global Enable: First, you must check the "Enable Time-of-Day Lighting FX" box within the main Time & Calendar settings panel.
- Scene-Specific Enable (Crucial Step): This feature must also be activated on a per-scene basis.
- Go to the configuration for the scene you want to automate (Right-click scene in navigation > Configure).
- Go to the "Lighting" tab.
- Find and check the box for "Enable Time-of-Day Lighting."
Configuring Time Periods:
Within the main settings panel, you can configure the four time periods:
- Start Time: The in-game time (Hour:Minute) when this lighting profile becomes active.
- Darkness: A value from 0 (bright as day) to 1.0 (total darkness).
- Global Light: Check this for daytime scenes where you want the entire map to be illuminated. Uncheck it for night scenes where light is limited to specific sources.
