What's The Point?

A person's online persona is connected to their offscreen person by one life narrative. Even if their decisions online tells a story vastly different from their real life story, these stories can still make sense together as different "adventures" in a bigger personal narrative. This bigger story depends on how much the person identifies with and prioritizes the online/offline roles they take on.

By focusing on Second Life as a case study, Schechtman builds support for her theory, Narrative Self-Constitution View, which describes the narrative unity of a person's life, regardless of their offline and online activities. This theory can be applied to personal identity throughout a variety of online and offline experiences and helps explain how personal identity can be understood in our internet society.
