[Our practice] can focus on what people have going for them on those ways of being and doing that help them successfully negotiate their world.
In sum, purposeful use of self is a process through which people revisit their histories and use their own lives and experiences to contribute to a variety of perspectives for view and review. And while previous success stories are confirmed on they one hand, opportunities to learn new skills are provided on the other, through the reconsideration or reworking of failures as personal stories. In either case, mutual aid occurs.
