This work began with the message of MYO_No, it’s not U, it’s ㅠ from the SPECULATION collection. I sought to visualize the weight and tone of that message, and added the symbolism of the “Black Cat” from Edgar Allan Poe’s The Black Cat, which resonates with its core meaning. The piece conveys the idea that dark truths, hidden and unknown to anyone, will eventually be revealed to the world. Through the eyes of the Black Cat, which emerges from the darkness to finally face the light, I sought to embody this message in an image.

The subtitle “Aletheia” was chosen because the ancient Greek word ἀλήθεια carries the etymological sense of “unconcealment” or “nothing hidden,” which aligns with this theme. I wanted this work to speak to all the good-hearted and powerless who have been pressed down or sacrificed. The odd Black Cat has seen it all and stands in their place, urging them not to let bitterness consume them but to hold on to their kindness. At the same time, I hope they do not turn away from the quiet yet meaningful joys of daily life, and that they may find strength to rise again.

메시지의 무게와 어조를 시각화하고자 하였으며, 이 메시지의 핵심과 상통하는 의미를 지닌 에드거 앨런 포의 「The Black Cat」에 등장하는 ‘검은 고양이’의 상징성을 더하였습니다.

어느 누구도 예상치 못했고 또 알지 못한 채 가려져 있던 불편한 진실은, 언젠가 세상에 드러나게 될 것이라는 메시지를 표현하고자 하였습니다.

그래서 어둠 속에 있다가 드디어 세상의 빛을 보게 된 검은 고양이의 눈을 통해, 그러한 메시지를 이미지로 형상화하였습니다.

또한 작품의 부제를 “Aletheia”로 정한 것은, 고대 그리스어 ἀλήθεια가 지닌 ‘은폐되지 않음, 숨김 없음’이라는 어원적 의미가 이번 주제와 맞닿아 있기 때문입니다.

무력하게 짓눌리거나 희생당할 수밖에 없었던 세상의 모든 선량한 약자들에게 전하고 싶었습니다.

그 모든 것들을, 이 묘한 검은 고양이는 모두 보았고 또 대신 나서 줄 테니, 마음속에서 스스로를 괴롭히는 독기 대신 그 선한 마음을 잃지 마시길 바랍니다.

더불어 하루하루의 소소하지만 큰 행복을 외면하지 마시고, 스스로 다시 일어설 수 있길 기원합니다.
