About the Foundation: The Abebi AfroNonFiction Foundation exists to celebrate bold African women writers through literary recognition, community, and craft. The Foundation runs the Abebi Award in AfroNonFiction, a prize that shines a light on personal narratives by Nigerian and African women, alongside biannual masterclasses that build community and craft within the nonfiction genre across the continent.

About My Role: I joined the Foundation in April 2025 as Social Media Manager, initially managing content hands-on across platforms. As the team grew, my role evolved into overseeing content direction and managing the content calendar rather than day-to-day posting — a transition that reflects the systems I helped put in place.

To grow the Foundation's visibility and secure resources for its programming, I took on three distinct communications challenges:

  1. Communications (Supported the Foundation through a rebrand, establishing a cohesive social media presence that reflected its new identity and tone.)
  2. Sponsorship Pitch Deck (Designed and developed the pitch deck for the 2025 Abebi Award ceremony, which secured ₦1.75 million in sponsorship from Selar.)
  3. Content Strategy & Direction (Directed the content calendar and oversaw all social media output, ensuring consistency in voice, aesthetic, and community engagement.)

Key Results:

  1. Secured ₦1.75 million in sponsorship from Selar through a single pitch deck, funding the 2025 Abebi Award ceremony.
  2. Grew Instagram engagement by 3.5% over the first three months of joining.
  3. Helped establish a sustainable content system that now runs with oversight rather than hands-on daily management.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Content Direction: Overseeing the content calendar and guiding the tone and aesthetic of all social media output
  2. Sponsorship Communications: Researched, designed and developed the pitch deck for the 2025 Abebi Award ceremony
  3. Helped establish a sustainable content system that now runs with oversight rather than hands-on daily management.
