Understanding the Traditional Ceremonies

For the wedding of Bee & Benjamin

October 2025 - Sukhothai, Thailand

Welcome

This guide explains the traditional Thai wedding ceremonies you will experience during our special day. Each ritual has meaning and cultural significance.

Thai weddings are joyful, festive celebrations that bring together spirituality, family, and community. While spiritual moments are important, the overall atmosphere is spontaneous and lively - feel free to eat, drink, and celebrate throughout the day!

Part 1: The Buddhist Blessing Ceremony

Time: 7:09 AM

Duration: Approximately 1 hour

What you will see:

Buddhist monks will arrive at Bee's family home to bless our marriage. The ceremony begins with us offering food to the monks. They will sit inside the house and pray for approximately one hour, chanting blessings for our union. When the ceremony concludes, the monks will eat the food we have offered.

What it means:

This ceremony invites spiritual blessings and protection for our marriage. The monks' prayers bring good fortune and happiness to our life together.

Why 7:09? You may notice the ceremony starts at an unusual time - ending in "09". In Thai tradition, the number 9 is considered very lucky. Thai culture blends Buddhism with beliefs about fortune and auspicious timing, and you'll see this reflected in the ceremony schedule throughout the day.
