The large number of organizations and resources that can provide balanced education and empower Inuvik to solve the issues pertaining to clean and reliable energy production cannot be accessed or contacted in an efficient manner.
Our solution is about providing easy connection and outreach between Inuvik and the programs and organizations that already exist to help them increase their knowledge about their own culture, clean and sustainable energy, and how to better advocate for themselves and their community. We're doing this by combining as many resources as possible in one virtual platform. The goal is to bridge the disconnect between the daunting number of available resources and make it easier to connect and learn.
The first phase of our solution is to group together all of the organizations and informational resources and groups, and organize them in an easy to access/view/contact platform for the Inuvik community. A key part of this step is to reach out and include the local community in the platform development process. This will be their resource, they need be key in the design phase.
One key stakeholder that needs to be included is the Elders in the community. The elder involvement is such an important aspect of educating Inuvik youth about their local culture and history. Ensuring this knowledge transfer is highlighted and included alongside technical resources guarantees a well rounded expertise to solve future issues.
The toggle below expands a summary of all groups we considered over the course of the week.
Given the demographic of Inuvik includes such a massive population of young people aged between 15-30, we felt that the best audience for our problem solution would be individuals in this demographic. This age group is uniquely positioned to take in new knowledge about energy sources and production, learn about their local culture from elders in the community, see change firsthand in their community, and take on careers that can positively shape the future of Inuvik.
We think the best way to promote and get the word out is to promote in conjunction with the East Tree Secondary School and the Town of Inuvik.
