Glaciers represent important elements within many mountainous regions, providing cool, plentiful water when seasonal snowpacks have been depleted. These ice masses also sensitively respond to climate change. I will discuss how we quantify glacier change and showcase our research through examples from glaciers in western Canada. |
Dr. Brian Menounos is a professor of the Geography Program at the University of Northern British Columbia and a Canada Research Chair in Glacier Change. His research is aimed at understanding past and present climate change in western Canada. Brian’s passion for understanding glaciers and glacier change is expressed in his current research program which centres around Holocene glacier fluctuations, environmental controls of proglacial lake sedimentation, and recent and future changes to the cryosphere. |
