Taxonomy - structured terms with hierarchical relationships
Thesaurus - taxonomy with additional information about preferred terms
Gazetteer - geographical index or dictionary
Ontology - terms and concepts with defined relationships between them
Terminology - controlled list of terms relating to a field or theme
Authority files - controlled records used to describe entities and link to other records. Often in GLAM data you’ll find people, persons and organisations as authority files within their cataloguing and collections management systems.
List - lists of terms that feature in a catalogue, or than have been generated from an investigation
