At Lava, we are building infrastructure and user experiences to shape the future of finance—powered by bitcoin and the principles of self-sovereignty. Our flagship product, a self-custodial bitcoin wallet, provides users with a simple, holistic, and seamless financial experience. We believe that users today aren’t able to achieve their financial needs using bitcoin in a trust-minimized, easy way. Lava builds new financial primitives for bitcoin and brings them to users via an amazing wallet interface.

We are seeking a Systems Engineer who shares our excitement about bitcoin’s potential for being the basis of a transparent, trust-minimized, and fair financial system. As a product-obsessed and engineering-led organization, we value candidates who are builders with a strong background in cryptography, distributed systems, and bitcoin development. The ideal candidate has demonstrated expertise in working with distributed systems and Rust.

What you will be doing

• Use Rust to build a holistic self-custodial bitcoin library that will deploy to our front end targets
• Deploy micro-services written in Rust on our Linux backend
• Conceptualize and build new products for Lava with our engineers from a first principles perspective
• (Optional and a major plus) Work with the founders and other systems engineers in person

What we look for in you

• Experience in systems development in a language such as Rust, C or C++. A desire to quickly learn Rust if not already known
• Literacy with both cryptography and bitcoin from technical perspectives
• Success with building projects from ideation to actualization
• Demonstrable knowledge of secure development practices
• The absence of fear for Linux and Bash
• A passion for bitcoin and bringing a principled, self-sovereign money experience to the world. As a result, you are willing to put in a ton of work to realize this mission.
