WeSpire has worked with Quantis International, a Life Cycle Assessment firm, to illustrate the potential environmental savings from sustainability actions taken on the WeSpire platform. This sustainability impact metric provides a directional idea of the amount of impact units and money saved by taking environmentally friendly actions.

The impactful actions are scored for savings in 6 different impact units:

Users earn these impacts when they mark the action complete.

Many WeSpire customers opt not to use our sustainability impacts to report externally, but rather talk about the behavior our platform is inspiring, including actions taken, events attended, etc. To report on sustainability impacts, they tend to use the company's corresponding data. For example, one client wanted to increase the participation of composting that was done in their office cafeteria so they led a campaign on the platform (along with office signage) and used the before and after weight of the compost.

How is an Action scored for Sustainability Impact?

  1. Make an assumption as to what the alternate behavior to the Action is

For example, if the action is "Fill up with tap water instead of bottled water" then the reasonable alternative action is "Open a new bottle of water and throw it away."

2. Quantis researches the impact data for each element within the action

For 1 (0.5L) bottle of water:

For a (0.5L) washed glass of unfiltered tap water:

3. All calculations are converted to a common numerical system

4. A cradle to grave assessment is performed

Quantis's calculations compare the impacts of each action, considering the production, use, and disposal of drinking tap water instead of bottled. The results of "Fill up with tap water instead of bottled water" are:
