Here are some advice to help you suggest tips to your Council members.

Keep in mind that the following advice is only a suggestion based on past experience. Ultimately, each Council member is free to decide the value of a tip.

Table of contents:

1. Provide a way to identify the user 🙋‍♀️

Avoid suggesting tips with no way to identify the beneficiary. Ideally, the user has an on-chain verified identity. Here is how to set an on-chain identity. If an on-chain identity cannot be set, the beneficiary of the tip needs to add in their contributions their DOT or KSM address.

For example, you want to suggest tips for a community member who published an insightful Youtube video about Kusama's auction and crowdloans. This member doesn't have an on-chain identity but they added in the description of the video their KSM address.

2. Respect attribution rights 🤝

Suggest tips for contributions that can be attributed to someone in particular. If there is no clear author of a contribution, Council members don't know if they are tipping the creator or someone else. This will most likely result in a tip of 0.

If you suggest tips for an article that you have translated, make sure to add your on-chain identity at the end of the article or your KSM/DOT address. And always provide the original source (here the article you translated).

3. Contribution linked to the relay chain ⛓

Suggest tips that are linked to the Polkadot or Kusama relay chains. There are many topics related to the relay chains.

If you suggest a tip for a contribution related to a specific parachain or a project within the ecosystem, Council members might tip 0. Take into account that topics that are not focused on the technology itself might not be endorsed.

4. Focus on original content 🆕

Polkadot and Kusama are two networks growing up fast. When you suggest a tip, make sure that it is not repetitive. Always try to seek for innovative contributions.

For example, there are already many videos introducing Polkadot and Kusama. Council members might tip less for this type of contributions if the content has been done already.

5. Communicate with your Council members 🗨

There are specific channels created for you to communicate with your Council members. Make sure you are there to chat and ask questions: #polkadot-direction and #kusama-direction. These two channels are also available on the Polkadot Discord server and Kusama Discord server.
