While staying on script helps keep the auctions from going off the rails… there’s a ton of fun abilities in the world of Clocktower that you can offer your players! Here are just a few to get you thinking of the interesting interactions.
Summoner (On Day 1)
Summoner, on its own, is a very powerful Minion. However, if you were to auction this ability Day 1, you only offer the “You start knowing 3 bluffs” part of this ability! This is a huge boon of information. If a good player wins this ability, maybe you listen to what some evil players are claiming and throw one of them under the bus by including their role in the summoner’s bluffs? If an evil player wins it, you can use this as an opportunity to let them know more roles that are not in play so they can tailor their strategy accordingly.
You get 3 bluffs. On the 3rd night, choose a player: they become an evil Demon of your choice.
Each night*, you may choose 3 players (all players learn who): each silently chooses to live or die, but if all live, all die.
Al-Hadikhia
The Al-Had’s ability is potent, no matter which team wins it. It grants the ability to potentially resurrect players from the dead or brutally murder others. Typically, a Demon Al-Had resurrecting players is bringing back minions, but what would a good player with this power do? Do they go demon hunting, or try to bring back members of their team?
Investigator
Any info role is going to be a really strong tilt for the good team if they can win it, given the abilities are confirmed to be sober. However, who wields them is never confirmed! Giving out something without a mechanical effect such as an info role allows evil players to bluff winning the ability as well and throwing information out of wack! This ability, especially late, won’t point at the demon, but still gives good enough of a chance to kill an evil.
You start knowing that 1 of 2 players is a particular Minion.
Each night, choose a player: you learn their alignment.
Village Idiot
A delicious lollipop that gives you one opportunity to clear someone or condemn them to death. Again, an info role is potent information, given it’s confirmed sober, but anyone can claim to have won it. Usually, Village Idiot isn’t as strong given it’s own internal drunkening. However, here, the Djinn never lies!
Mortician
The Djinn is not restrictive! All that needs to be auctioned is “an ability.” Auction a Homebrew role if you think it works best for the current situation. Again, info roles work best, but Homebrews typically deal with information in interesting and different ways. This Fall of Rome role gives information on neighbors. By auctioning this off, who you execute that day becomes very important potentially changing the both team’s plans.
Each night, if a player died by execution today you learn if either of their living neighbors are evil*
