Research Question
“How do individuals orient themselves differently when they are alone versus when they are sharing space with others in the home?”
- How does the presence of others influence the choice of seating or facing direction?
- How do orientation choices correlate with feelings of comfort, focus, or alertness?
- How do shared spaces shift meaning depending on who is present and how they occupy the room?
- How does orientation affect social interaction or communication among roommates?
Participants: 3 roommates
Documentation
- Once every hour (or shorter time stamps, depending on availability), regardless of alone/ with roommates
- When someone enters/leaves the environment (2, before person enters/leaves + after person enters/leaves)
What to Capture
Step 1: Take Pictures
- Point the camera at what you are facing (1x)
- Optional: additional photos of what you currently have your attention on
Step 2: Answer 3 Questions
- How does this orientation make me feel?
- calm / alert / guarded / focused /connected / distracted / neutral
