Synopsis

This project analyzes a dataset of 1,000 students to understand key demographic, socioeconomic, and academic factors influencing overall student performance. Using Microsoft Excel, calculated fields, PivotTables, PivotCharts, and dashboards were created to explore patterns across test preparation, gender, race/ethnicity, parental education level, and performance categories. The final output is a fully interactive dashboard supported by slicers for dynamic data exploration.

Project Objectives

Analyze how demographic factors influence student academic performance. Assess the impact of test preparation course completion on outcomes. Compare performance across Math, Reading, and Writing. Categorize students into distinct performance groups. Build an interactive Excel dashboard with PivotTables, PivotCharts, and slicers.

Dataset Description

The dataset contains 1,000 student records with the following fields:

• Gender
• Race/Ethnicity
• Parental Level of Education
• Lunch Type
• Test Preparation Course
• Math Score
• Reading Score
• Writing Score

Additional calculated fields were created:

• Average Score = AVERAGE(Math, Reading, Writing)
• Pass/Fail Indicator
• Performance Category (Advanced, Intermediate, Basic, Needs Help)
