Before revisiting our idea we went through a series of ideas for our narrative. Focusing on the idea of perspective we began looking at narratives that in the first instance were very removed from the macro topic of mental health. We wanted to break down the idea into an easy digestible story.
We came up with this the of using the perspective in a very literal way as a metaphor of sorts that embodies the idea. We started focusing on things like objects and playing with the metaphor of how one persons perspective on an object can vary to someone else's. This spurred the idea of holding some kind of physical workshop series where we could get people to present their personal perspective of the chosen object, whatever that could be.
While a good idea in theory we really felt that it was a very rudimentary idea that didn't really create an interesting narrative or provide much for us to work with. We also felt that our narrative was becoming to far removed from the macro topic and that while we may understand what we were doing it wouldn't necessarily come across that way for someone removed form the project.
We experimented with several different ways as to how we could make this idea work and each time ran into a dead end that we simply were not happy with. This is when we revisited our idea to help provide direction for our narrative.
Upon reflecting on what we were trying to do with our initial narrative idea we realised that we were in essence trying to use the two definitions of perspective to present an idea. The literal to show the theroretical.
Perspective: Dictionary result for perspective
noun
1. the art of representing three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other.
"the theory and practice of perspective"
2. a particular attitude towards or way of regarding something; a point of view.
"most guidebook history is written from the editor's perspective"
We felt that the interplay between these definitions made for an interesting basis for a narrative and gave us concept to work with and build from. Combining this new concept with things we previously had ideated we were able to come up with a a strong clear narrative for our idea, that is not only interesting but makes for a digestible story.
