Plot Summary

Magic in this world is finite. Every time a mage dies within the dungeon, her power is consumed and never returns to the world. Over centuries, one dungeon has grown powerful by feeding on the magic of countless women who tried and failed to conquer it. Only women can become mages, and only they may enter. None have ever returned.

You play as Caela, a young witch and sister of the prodigal mage Soriel, who vanished within the dungeon years ago. Soriel was admired and revered, and believed to be the one who would break the dungeon's curse. Her disappearance left a void in Caela's world. With grief quietly carried beneath a hopeful determination, Caela enters the dungeon to uncover what happened to her sister and to prove that legacy does not end in silence.

As Caela journeys through four elemental zones, each shaped by the emotions and failures of those who came before, she uncovers fragmented memories and confronts the shadows of sacrifice. Her journey begins with clarity and optimism, but slowly becomes more complex. The deeper she goes, the more distorted her perceived truth becomes. What starts as a path to avenge her sister and gain clarity becomes a reckoning with loss and upholding her values. Among witches, reviving the dead is not only considered impossible but is also regarded as taboo, a forbidden act tied to desperation and irreversible consequences.

Story Progression

The narrative unfolds through four elemental zones, each representing a stage in Caela’s emotional and magical journey.

You begin in The Earthen Grove, a classic stone dungeon overgrown with flora and fauna, some deadly. This is where Caela’s purpose is clear and the magic around you remains steady (for the most part). It represents your initial resolve and is where weaker witches never made it past.

From there, you move into The Fractured Hearth, a realm of unstable fire magic and emotional intensity. Magic flares all around you. Here, Caela begins to experience memories that conflict with one another, revealing that not all witches came with noble intentions. Stories don’t align, and events from the past are more ambiguous.

The Mirrored Tides shifts the tone completely. It's more refined, carrying the elegance often associated with water. More submerged memories begin to resurface as you explore the depths of this area. Water flows through the rooms, pooling in the regions that carry fragments of witches' last thoughts. Here, you discover much more of your Soriel's path, making your journey all the more personal.

Finally, in The Veiled Tundra, the dungeon first appears quiet and desolate. Some rooms will have obscured vision, placing a greater emphasis on exploration. After defeating several enemies and unlocking more lore, you (Caela) reach the final room. This room holds all the magical power taken from prior witches’ deaths. Your sister's presence lingers in this place, and the dungeon, now full of centuries of sacrifice, waits for your answer.

Path & Player Choices

Throughout the game, players make small but meaningful choices. You decide which path to take, which rooms to explore, and which memories to engage with. Memory echoes can deeply enrich the story, but it is up to the player to seek them out. These choices influence the emotional tone of the final moments and shape what kind of closure is reached.

The most significant choice comes at the end:

Each path carries a cost, and none offers a truly perfect ending. While restoring the sealed magic to the world may seem the most selfless choice, it is left to the player to decide what is worth sacrificing.
