Staff working a shift greater than 4 hours are entitled to a 30 minute unpaid break.

Staff working a shift greater than 8 hours receive a 1 hour unpaid break that can be taken in two 30 minute increments or a 1 hour block.

Managers (casual staff Managers, not Department Managers) are expected to ensure their staff receive a break during their shift. Please think about your staff’s breaks at the beginning of your shift so you can plan accordingly. Ask for the assistance of your department head where necessary.

If the staff member was unable to take a break during their shift, please make a note of this and also get the individual to let Staff HQ know. This is not the preferred method of working, and we expect all staff working more than 4 hours to receive their legally obligated break.
