Benefits:
- frictionless/permissionless work (even for maginalised groups), remove hiring barrier
- shake the habits (and damage) accrued through work in the capitalist economy. (Mindset shaking)
Difficulties & contentions:
- It’s hard to make any real meaningful analytics about a contribution (dynamic graph)
- Not enable: observe contributions and easily alter weightings, aligned contributors around a shared goal
- Contention: encouraged people to ‘audit each other’, compounded good emotions and mutual benefit rather than APY
- Auto algorithm: no means to easily see and alter the system, hard to understand, feel anxious, excluding non-technical contributions
- What got rewarded was not necessarily what progressed the product, like pure social interactions, meanwhile people wanted to express gratitude to each other without that being tied to financial allocations (kudos/badge system may help and separating with Cred)
- Onboarding issue: anyone can arrive and offer their skills, even if those skills are not what’s needed at a particular point in time, (Permissionless means entry, it should have limitations, not meaning freely come and go) (Hiring is important, change people when found not skilled/fitting)
- new people could be “completely well-meaning but don’t understand the limitations and try to push it too far
- (Onboarding needs to guide people to the right track, and let them know the limitations/rules)
(If we don’t need that many people, how can we handle when new people come?)
- (Governance is difficult, but I think we should value “level 2 trust”, which is the vitality/foundation of the DAO/org, the shared goal progress is the result.)
Some of my observation in forum:
- Interpersonal conflict (harm on some people), insufficient funding (communication power)
- Wanna take break after burnout (people seeking money over happiness)
- Cred/Grain inflation problem: Involution/zero-sum game (many people work on same task), how to direct people to lift the ceiling
- Attack/Game the parameter settings/regulatory system

- Not monolithic reputation system, but only a patchwork quilt of the whole OS
- At least, people can opt in diff projects and freely opt out or fork it
