Teaching Format 🖥

Working in small groups (typical size 4), students will approach a range of tasks set over the year in cycles and use a wide range of learning resources. Each cycle will consist of a trigger issued at the beginning; with a tutor led introductory session followed by group meetings, to include: research, guided reading and preparation for a presentation of the proposed solution. Through iterations of the problem definition, groups will determine what they need to know to solve the problem. This will be a facilitated activity, guiding the learners as required to ensure that appropriate concepts are addressed. Groups will be expected to maintain logs of all group meetings, published using appropriate software. Using a mix of online resources and face to face interactions (blended), individual group members will take on agreed research tasks for the group and together produce a group presentation on the tasks set.

Formative assessment: At the end of each task (during group workshops) the tutor will facilitate a group discussion about the overall performance during the task to provide oral feedback to each individual. Individuals will then submit a self-reflection (recorded or written) to the VLE, addressing the peer and tutor oral feedback gained during the workshops. Each review will then form part of the reflection report submitted at the end of the module as the summative assessment.

Assessments 🔑

1️⃣ Three group presentations (typical group size 4) plus an individual submission. Group presentations will mark the conclusion of each task affording context and rationale. Group presentations have a guideline of 20 minutes, with marks awarded to the group, with scope for adjustment to reflect individual effort (75% weighting).

2️⃣ An individual systematic reflection on the process of working with and producing a group solution to each problem. This will acknowledgement of changes to their own practice in readiness for the next problem. This review will be completed as a formative assessment at the end of each task, then evaluated and submitted as a 750 word reflection report at the end of the module (25%).
