We know there will be times when you feel unwell, be it mentally or physically, and need to take care of yourself. We hope you feel better soon if you’re not feeling yourself as you read this! Please know that your health and continued wellbeing is our primary concern.

If you are well enough to work, but sick enough to pass it on, please stay at home until you feel better. If you don't feel well enough to work, take the time off work that you need and seek medical advice if you need to. We want to make sure you have enough time to recover and feel good coming back to work.

<aside> 🤔 Follow these steps for sick leave

  1. Tell your manager before 10 am, and for User Support, please let your line manager know 1 hour before your shift begins
  2. Record it in Humaans
  3. Set your slack status

See below for more detail on each of these areas!

<aside> 📌 As a line manager, you should check that the 3 key steps outlined to the left, have been completed by your direct report.

Let the People Ops team know if you need support reporting the sick leave in Humaans!

Who should I tell?

Let both your line manager and your team know by 10 am, or as soon as possible if you begin feeling sick during the work day. For User Support, please let your line manager know 1 hour before your shift begins. That way, firstly, they won’t worry about where you are, but can also provide you with the support you need for coming back to work and your team can plan around you being away. We ask that you touch base and update your manager each day following this, if you continue to be sick.

Do I need to record it anywhere?

Please add your sick days to Humaans. If you’re not feeling well enough to do this, the People Ops team can do this for you. We ask you to record your sick leave in Humaans as some people don’t work that closely with their line managers day-to-day. This way, your line manager will be fully aware if you are sick and will be able to offer you the best support.

If you’re unwell for more than 7 days (including the weekend), you should share details of your sick leave with your line manager and People Ops Partner by email to confirm this. This is called ‘self-certification’, and should be done in addition to logging your sick days in Humaans.

Set your Slack status

It’s important that we update our Slack status in a way that is helpful to other members of the team. If you’re not well enough to work please use “🤒 Off Sick”, stay offline and rest. If you’re not feeling 100% but feel ok to work a little, you can use “🤖 Operating at 80%” to let folks know that you may be slower to respond.

What happens if I need long-term sick leave?

Firstly, we’re really sorry to hear that you need long term leave and wish you all the best in getting better.

If you think you’ll need more than 4 weeks off, please chat with your line manager so we can work out how best to support you. You can find more information on this process here along with being able to complete a ‣ with your line manager and a member of the People Ops team.
