A dedicated volunteer since December 2018 (!!!), Shelly brings a unique passion and a holistic approach to her work at AAC.

While it might not be for everyone, Shelly genuinely loves cleaning kennels. For her, it’s far more than just tidying up: it's a vital opportunity to connect. By spending that one-on-one time, she gets to know each cat’s personality, take better photos than their "intake mug shots," and help market them with fun facts. It’s also a crucial moment to check on their health and alert staff if a cat isn't feeling well.

As a mentor, Shelly stresses that every time you volunteer, you make a difference. She also prepares new volunteers for the reality of the work with honesty and compassion.

“Volunteering at an animal shelter can be an emotional roller coaster. Some days are filled with happiness because your favorite kitty was adopted by the perfect person. Other days you leave sad because you see there is one cat that is constantly overlooked or another one that is getting sick.”

When she’s not providing top-notch care for the cats of AAC and beyond, you might find Shelly embracing her other passion: karaoke. Although she (thinks she) can't carry a tune, it doesn't stop her from tackling her favorite song, "Bohemian Rhapsody" on her own karaoke machine!
