SLT
Aim: at the end of the session, SLT have discussed how we can help lead progress and facilitate improved understanding and equity in our school community over the next three years
Sharing suggested resources and examples of good practice for SLT to discuss and consider adopting at RGS for the future.
- Duration: 45 minutes (3:15 pm–4:00 pm TBC)
- Focus: Strategic EDI guidance to empower leadership in driving cultural change and supporting staff.
- Practical steps to develop a calling in culture amongst staff where we can learn with and from each other
- Format: Targeted strategy session addressing leadership responsibilities within the EDI landscape over the next three years
Please might you think about a programme for us over the next couple of years with a session perhaps in the Autumn of 2025 and another in Summer 2026 and a third in January of 2027? We can think of content over the months ahead but having a plan through to 2027 would be helpful. We could book in dates and it would also mean you could set us 'homework' to work on between sessions.
Teaching Staff Follow-Up Session

- Misidentification of staff and of students - similar ethnic group
- Names – using the wrong name or mispronouncing names
- Use of language and terminology that some find triggering such as people of colour and BAME
- Allowing reference to some stereotypes such as Asians families typically seeing maths as more important than white British families
- How to call in / be an upstander when something happens that makes you feel uncomfortable
- How to ensure that you do not blame someone for making a mistake but understand them and help them to learn
- Please help us talk about and agree / commit to being a staff community where we can make mistakes without blame and that calling in reinforces a sense of community, of care and shared purpose to learn with and from each other about EDI issues.
- Specifically address how we can talk to each other in a non-judgemental, supportive way to help each other to learn about
