Description
Utilizing the National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework, this four-week course will introduce you to the fundamentals of cybersecurity, and the common threats to an organization and how to maintain a robust cybersecurity posture. It will also provide you with an overview of the legal and ethical aspect of cybersecurity, and explain opportunities and career pathways using the iQ4 Wallet. There is a mentoring/digital coach component, comprised of subject matter experts from the cybersecurity industry. At the end of the course, an iQ4 - Cybersecurity Workforce Alliance certificate will be issued validating successful completion and that work was performed with the guidance of industry subject matter expert mentors.
Week 1: Introduction to Cybersecurity & Terminology Used in Cybersecurity
Learning Objectives
- Describe the treatment of cybersecurity as a business priority using risk versus benefit.
- Describe the target audience for the practice of cybersecurity as defined by NIST.
- Define cybersecurity using the NIST definition.
- Understand cybersecurity job roles and associated description.
Week 2: Cybersecurity Legal & Ethical Considerations
Learning Objectives
- Identify cybersecurity issues requiring attention.
- Explain the regulatory considerations for cybersecurity considerations of regulatory authorities.
- Identify evidence required for law enforcement.
- Discuss the ethical issues in cybersecurity.
- State the commitment to ethical professional conduct.
Week 3: Threats and Responses of Cybersecurity
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize the common types of cybersecurity risks and attacks facing firms and individuals today.
- Recite the steps to prevent cybersecurity exploits.
Week 4: Methods of Maintaining Cybersecurity
Learning Objectives:
- Summarize the need for a scope statement
- Illustrate the need to measure, monitor, analyze and evaluate an organization's cybersecurity program
- Explain the need for risk management in determining responses to threats and opportunities
- Articulate the approaches in assessing/evaluating threats and vulnerabilities
Week 5: Working with Others in Cybersecurity and the iQ4 Wallet
Learning Objectives:
- List the types of cybersecurity roles and opportunities
- Outline the alignment of a cybersecurity practitioner's role
- Describe the set of tools and techniques available to the cybersecurity professional.
- Recognize the set of skills required for the cybersecurity professional.
