The Role
As a Senior Backend Engineer at Social Tip, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust backend systems that power our SaaS platform. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions that meet our users' needs.
In this role, you'll help us deliver real value to everyday people by building the technology that puts money in their pockets while potentially shaping the future of social media marketing. Your work will directly impact how brands and consumers interact in the digital space, creating a more authentic marketing ecosystem.
This is a fully remote position.
Salary Range: £60,000–£90,000 + Equity
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop high-performance, scalable backend services using Node.js
- Build and optimize database schemas and queries in PostgreSQL
- Design and implement the APIs that power our applications & reward engine
- Document systems and processes for future reference and team knowledge
- Write tests than verify and guarantee the functionality and correctness of our systems
- Collaborate with frontend engineers to integrate backend services
- Contribute to architectural decisions and technical strategy
- Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices
- Participate in code reviews to ensure quality and knowledge sharing
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
Must-Have Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong proficiency with Node.js and its ecosystem
- Professional experience with multiple programming languages
- Extensive experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization
- Experience with API design and implementation
- Proven track record developing and maintaining SaaS applications
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles and best practices
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills
- Experience working on products that span multiple teams & collaborating across teams
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Must be an active social media user, especially Instagram
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with GraphQL
- Experience with Python and Jupyter
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, particularly GitHub Actions
- Experience working with distributed systems
- Experience operating large-scale software solutions
- Experience integrating with 3rd party APIs
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Contributions to open-source projects
- Experience with monitoring and performance optimisation tools
