Before entering personal information on a website, ensure the website is secure so any information provided is safe.

There are two things to look for when you visit a website:

  1. a padlock icon next to the address bar
  2. a website address that begins with HTTPS

The S in HTTPS stands for secure, and indicates that the website has encrypted protections in place. It does not protect you from phishing scams, but it does help ensure that your data is only received by the correct web server.
