One of the most iconic viewpoints in the Dolomites — and absolutely worth the hype. We hiked Seceda in October and I’d highly recommend doing it off-season if you can. Fewer crowds, golden autumn colours, and a much more peaceful mountain experience.

Overview:
- Distance: 19 km (6 hours including detours)
- Difficulty: Moderate – well-marked trails with some uphill sections
- Best time to go: Off-season (October) for crowds-free experience

Parking & Starting Point
- Cristauta (Praplan) parking: €8/day (cash only)
- Free in October - perfect for off-season hiking
- Small mountain car park — fills up extremely quickly in peak season
We started hiking directly from here. If visiting in summer, arrive very early to secure a space. It’s a small car park and reaches capacity fast (I would imagine).
Trail Conditions & What to Wear (Especially in October)
October conditions can be very different from summer:
- The trail was quite muddy in places.
- It’s very cold at the summit, even if it feels mild at the bottom.
- You will need proper waterproof hiking shoes.
- Dress in layers — you’ll warm up on the climb but cool down quickly at the top.
- Bring gloves — it was freezing at the ridgeline.
Route (Important Trail Tip)
- Ascent: Trail 1 via Col Raiser → Seceda
- Descent: Trail 4 past Rifugio Firenze
The route is generally well signposted, but it can get slightly confusing near the rifugios, especially if it’s busy or foggy.
After passing Col Raiser, you’ll reach Rifugio Fermeda, where the trail splits left and right.
