Scholarship Chair’s Wisdom
Description
The Scholarship Chair is responsible for promoting scholarship in the House. This includes, but is not limited to, informing Brothers about various academic deadlines, organizing study breaks, deciding how to use our IRDF funding (http://web.mit.edu/irdf/) and organizing TAXI Talks. In past years the Scholarship Chair also organized Stud-Nerd, although this tradition has been dying out.

Responsibilities
Scholarship Chair is responsible for the following:
- Physics Night (study nights, usually weekly)
- (Fall) IRDF Educational Operating Grants (http://web.mit.edu/irdf/forms.html). Talk to Scott Klemm for details. You can find him in the FCI office in the basement of the Student Center.
- Study Breaks (whenever)
- TAXI Talks (minimum 2 per semester)
- Finals Breakfast (finding volunteers to cook)
IRDF Educational Operating Grants
Two important things about IRDF Educational Operating Grants that I did not find out for a long time:
- The grants apply to expenses incurred in the previous fiscal year, which ends June 30th. If you buy something for the library in the Fall, it won't get reimbursed until next Fall.
- The grant gives us a 6.28% reimbursement on all of our operating costs, completely independent of the reimbursement on educational equipment. This is a substantial sum of money, so it is very important that the grant happen regardless of whether or not there are educational equipment costs we want reimbursed.
- Last semester, I talked to the person at FCI in charge of taking applications and he said things like projectors, monitors (unless they are for a specific computer), and non-educational software will all be automatically rejected for reimbursement because they can be used for too many non-educational purposes. But chairs, lamps, and educational software like people have been suggesting will do just fine.
