In this assignment, you will be working with your team to scan information concerning a specific topic area, highlight the key learnings that seem relevant for our objectives, and prepare a report to share these learnings with the large group. The assignment for your team has three parts:
In your breakout area, you will see various readings and/or other resources relevant to the topic for your team. There are two copies of each reading in your breakout area. Quickly work to divide these readings up among your team members, with each member taking one or two readings based on their personal interest in the various reading topics and the length of the readings. It is fine for more than one person to scan the same reading, but each reading should be scanned by at least one team member.
Once all the readings have been distributed, each team member should scan their readings, looking for specific observations, research findings, or other learnings that seem relevant to our objective of determining important findings for DGU. Feel free to take notes on the articles as useful. If you finish scanning your articles in less than 30 minutes consider picking up another reading and scan it as well.
After 30 minutes of scanning the readings, take turns as a team having each team member share the key learnings or takeaways from their readings. Focus on observations and learnings that could be useful to our discussions later today and tomorrow on how DoGoodU can help companies “Do Good”. Ask questions of your team members for clarification if needed.
As you discuss the learnings from the readings, reflect on the personal knowledge, expertise, and experiences you have in this topic area. Add this expertise and experience to your team’s discussions as you ask “What do we know about this topic?”. During your discussion, your team leader will serve as a scribe to capture key points on the white sheets in your breakout area.
Now take 15 minutes to prepare a 5-7 minute report for the large group that summarizes your team’s discussions. Highlight what your team learned from the readings as well as the knowledge, expertise, and experience of your team members. Focus on:
